The Experiences

Lifetime Memories Whether it’s Your 1st Safari or 100th

We have an array of unforgettable safari experiences to give you a true feel for South African Bushveld living.

guided game drive

Explore Limpokwena Nature Reserve with a trained and qualified field guide on our game drives. You will be stunned by the transforming scenery on a network of tracks leading from the thick riverine forest along the water’s edge, snaking through the vibrant Mopane thickets, and then eventually opening up into the magnificent immensity of the acacia savannah. View one of our curious Giraffes, or any of the antelope species in unparalleled proximity as they stop and pose for a photo. We recommend you stay at least 2 nights to get a full experience of the surrounding nature, while also leaving ample time to unwind.

Rates include one guided game drive per day. (Island Camp excluded)

Guided Game Drives can be booked at the rate of R350.00 per person

Morning drives:
Depart at 6:00 am (Summer season) or 7:00 am (Winter season) and return to the lodge 2 – 2.5 hours later.

Afternoon Drives:

Guided Bush Walks

There is nothing like encountering game on foot without the disturbance of a vehicle. We will spend time on tracks and signs as well as a bit of birding, for a much more intimate encounter. Silence and solitude are rare luxuries in modern life, but you will find both in abundance here on our walking safaris. However, what seems like a quiet rest spot soon becomes an orchestra of the intense fish eagle cry, the low baritone of Pel’s Fishing Owl hoots, the rustle of antelope in the foliage, and the gurgling of the river.

Please note:

  • Bush walks are offered at an additional rate of R450.00 per person.
  • Advance bookings are essential for bush walks, and availability is dependent on our judgment of certain conditions and animal movements.
  • We advise a moderate level of fitness for bush walks.
  • We do not allow children under the age of 12 years, as there is a possibility of encountering potentially dangerous game such as Elephant and Hippo while on foot.

Full-day or Half-day Fishing

Half-day fishing:
Offered at an additional price of R85.00 per person
From: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm

Full-day fishing:
Offered at an additional price of R120.00 per person
From: 8:00 am – 4:00pm

  • We will transport and supervise you for your protection.
  • Comfy chairs, a net, and help baiting up are provided, but it is up to your skill to land something!

  • Fishing tackle and bait are not provided – we rent out rods at a breakages deposit of R200.00 per rod.

For the avid birders, our proximity to Botswana and our location at the meeting of two rivers brings a myriad over 300 species to us. We are located along the Soutpansberg-Limpopo Birding Route as recognized by BirdLife South Africa.

With one of the most exceptional locations to tick off the elusive Pel’s Fishing Owl (with 2 of only 50 recorded breeding pairs in South Africa!), we offer specialized birding drives where we can spend time ticking off some rare lifers, such as the African Openbill, Saddle-billed Stork, Ground Hornbill, Meyer’s Parrot, and white-backed night Heron.

For anyone keen on birding, these drives are highly recommended!

Approximately 4 hours with a mixture of both walking and driving

R500.00 per person.

Bush Braai’s

Another great way to end the day is by booking an al fresco dining experience with a traditional South African braai. Your game drive ends at a surprise location, set up for a rustic riverside dinner around the fire and underneath the stars, with a night drive meander back to the lodge in search of any nocturnal animal life.

A limited selection of drink are available.

R700 per person with a minimum of 4 people and maximum of 9 people required.

Enjoy a relaxing stay with us

Again thanks for the weekends camping. We had a pair of Black Eagles entertaining us and the Fish Eagles were my wife's favourite. The birdlife next to the river is outstanding! Regarding the camp site itself PLEASE DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING!! From the road to the site, the site itself and the setup there are NO faults or ANY complaints to be made!! And there were a lot of game around camp and to be heard. Well done on the planning and setup of the site on the island. Powerpoints, kitchen and abolition facility is 100%. Couldn't ask for more. We visit Gonarezhou in Zimbabwe on a regular basis and this is the closest we have found to Gonarezhou in RSA, so well done. Limpokwena will definitely see us again!”

Muller Family - Waterpoort, 2020

I volunteered at Limpokwena for 4 weeks, and my biggest regret was not making that 4 months- I had the best time of my life thanks to the excellent hospitality provided by Syanne and Riley, and the friendly staff who I also worked with. Syanne and Riley made me feel safe and secure, welcoming me in to make me feel a part of their lovely family for the duration of my stay. I learnt new and exciting stuff every day, and they really went the extra mile to make this happen- contacting friends at the Endangered Wildlife Trust to experience ‘a day in the life’ there, organising events which enabled me to meet other volunteers at the town nearby (Alldays) and just generally making sure I got the most out of my trip. I was lucky enough to see 4 out of the big 5, and the highlight of my trip had to be the hyena call- up at night time in the Bush. I got to experience first- hand the practicalities of game reserve management, and the difficulties that come with it- burst pipes, broken fences and wrapping trees to avoid damage from the elephants. I also had the perfect amount of free time to relax and top up my tan! I will definitely be returning as soon as I can, and I could not recommend Limpokwena more. Thanks again

Fin Maguire - 2019

We stayed for 2 nights with the kids in the family cottage - which was wonderfull. The camp with it swimming pool is highly recommended. We enjoyed the game drives and especially wonderful Riley's detailed knowledge of the the bush. a great place to calm down and take in nature.

joubertsteyn - Cape Town, South Africa, July 2017

Big thank you to Riley & Syanne for the excellent few days at Limpokwena. Accommodation clean, comfortable and serviced daily. Make sure you stock up on food and drink before arriving. The communal kitchen, dining room, lounge are big and clean with an outdoors fire place for your bbq. There are more than enough space in the fridge/ freezers provided for all your food and drink. Riley is very knowledgeable and will make every game drive an experience. Camp located in the remote bush. Take your time and enjoy the experience. If nature and quiet spaces (limited internet no 3G) are not for you the reserve will not be an enjoyable experience.

Werner - Dublin, Ireland, October 2018

Hot temperatures, dry air and the warmest welcome we ever had in the bush. Comfortable chalet, braai ready to use, great drives and a very fresh and nice pool. Thank to our guests, we really enjoyed the accommodation, the chats with you and the staff and overall the peaceful atmosphere. Great place to discover!
